The Haywood County branch of the NAACP has invited Jackson County branch members to attend a special performance on Saturday, August 22 @ 2pm at Harris Chapel A.M.E. Zion in Canton (see map below). Doris “Granny D” Haddock was a remarkable activist who in 1999–at the age of 89–walked 3,200 miles to bring attention to campaign finance reform. She passed away in 2010 at the age of 100. See a .

Barbara Bates Smith of Clyde, NC, has been performing “Granny D” nationwide based on the legendary activist’s memoir, and will debut this new performance at the monthly meeting of the Haywood County NAACP. to learn more about the actress and Granny D.
