Local NAACP Branches Join to Celebrate Black History
On March 28, members of the Jackson County NC NAACP were invited to a meeting of the Haywood County NC NAACP for a repeat presentation of the Black History Reading performed during our Black History Month celebration. In both performances, the participatory presentation of the history of African Americans in the US was a great opportunity to learn new facts and contemplate familiar ones in a new context. The team who created the readings–Janice Inabinett, Enrique Gomez, Mary McGlauflin, and Lucy Christopher–did a wonderful job of pulling together centuries of history into a meaningful and thought-provoking performance. Our thanks to organizers and readers from both branches, to Avram Friedman for filming the performance, and to Jones Temple AME Zion Church for hosting the event. We look forward to many fruitful collaborations in the future!
