The Jackson County NAACP is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2020 Diversity Scholarship, established to support high school seniors of Jackson, Swain and Macon counties.

There were three winners from Blue Ridge Early College: Ramon Morales, Dallas Dean and Allison Morales.

From Smoky Mountain High School were Karis Borchelt and Alexandra Zimmerman; and from Swain County High School, Olivia Watty-Harris.

Winners received between $350-$1,000. A total of $4,200 was awarded by the Jackson County NAACP. The funds were provided by fundraising endeavors and by the generosity of local NAACP members.

No formal awards ceremony was held because of the pandemic.

The Jackson County branch hopes to make the scholarship an annual award to promote inclusivity and diversity in the western Carolina region.
